Kendamil Organic Ready to Feed Stage 2 is the certified organic follow-on milk in Kendamil's ready-to-feed range, for babies from 6 to 12 months who have started solids. It is the organic Stage 2 powder recipe, made up, UHT-sterilised and sealed in 200ml (6.8 fl oz) bottles: organic whole milk, GOS, the milk-derived HMO 3'-GL, nucleotides, algae DHA and vitamin D, with the iron level raised for the weaning months. Kendamil suggests about a pint a day, 500-600ml, alongside food, which is two and a half to three of these bottles. Kendamil packs them in sixes; we sell them by the bottle in bundles of 18, 36 and 72.
The first-stage bottle is Kendamil Organic Ready to Feed Stage 1, the non-organic alternative in a larger 250ml bottle is Kendamil Classic Ready to Feed Stage 2, and the tin this bottle mirrors is Kendamil Organic Stage 2.
Stage 1 vs Stage 2 in the Organic Bottle
Kendamil publishes the same ingredient list for both organic bottles. What changes between them is the balance, and the changes are modest.
| Per 100ml |
Organic Ready to Feed Stage 1 |
Organic Ready to Feed Stage 2 |
| Iron | 0.7mg | 0.8mg |
| Protein (whey / casein) | 1.4g (0.8g / 0.6g) | 1.5g (0.8g / 0.7g) |
| Lactose | 6.5g | 6.3g |
| Vitamin A | 50µg | 47µg |
| Potassium / zinc | 67mg / 0.5mg | 75mg / 0.54mg |
| Calcium / vitamin D | 45.2mg / 1.32µg | 44mg / 1.32µg |
| Energy / fat / DHA | 66 kcal / 3.5g / 16.1mg | 66 kcal / 3.5g / 16.1mg |
| GOS / galactosyllactose | 0.23g / 0.09g | 0.23g / 0.09g |
| Nucleotides | 2.8mg | 2.7mg |
So: a little more iron and protein, a touch more casein, slightly less lactose and vitamin A, and everything else held steady. This is a follow-on milk in the European sense, a rebalanced version of the first milk for a baby who is now getting some nutrition from food, not a thicker or sweeter product.
Why the Iron Goes Up at Six Months
Babies are born with a store of iron that carries them through the first months, and it starts to run low at around six months, which is also when solids begin. UK and EU infant formula rules recognise this by setting a higher minimum iron level for follow-on milks than for first infant milks, and Kendamil moves from 0.7mg to 0.8mg per 100ml between the two organic bottles. It is a supporting role: iron-rich first foods, such as well-cooked meat, lentils, beans, egg and fortified cereals, do most of the work, and the vitamin C in the bottle (9mg per 100ml) helps the iron in those foods to be absorbed.
You do not have to switch. A first infant milk can be used through the first year, and the Stage 1 bottle is labelled accordingly. Stage 2 is for parents who want the follow-on iron level once weaning is under way.

The Organic Follow-On Bottle vs the Organic Stage 2 Powder
Like the Stage 1 organic bottle, this one is the tin's recipe in liquid form rather than a separate formulation.

If your baby is on the organic Stage 2 tin at home, the bottle is the same milk for the nappy bag. Do not pour powder feed and bottle milk into the same feeding bottle; use one or the other for each feed.
Feeding Alongside Solids
Between 6 and 12 months milk is still the main source of nutrition and food is practice that gradually becomes the main event. Kendamil's guide of 500-600ml a day works out at two and a half to three 200ml bottles, usually as two or three milk feeds around meals. From six months a free-flow or open cup can take some of those feeds, and the bottle pours cleanly into one. Offer food before milk at lunch and dinner from around eight or nine months so appetite for solids has room to grow.
- Sterilise the feeding bottle or cup; the milk is sterile until opened. Shake the bottle well and pour.
- Serve at room temperature or warmed in warm water or a bottle warmer, tested on the inside of your wrist. Kendamil's instruction is to check the temperature of the feed if warmed. Skip the microwave.
- Use a poured feed within two hours, or within one hour of your baby starting on it, then discard it.
- Cap what is left, refrigerate it and use it within 24 hours. Unopened bottles need no refrigeration.
Bottles Per Month
At Kendamil's suggested intake a baby on Stage 2 alone uses 75 to 90 bottles a month. Most families at this stage are combining bottles with powder, breast milk or both and use far fewer: a 36-bottle bundle is about two weeks of full feeding or a month of outings and night feeds, and 72 bottles is a month of full feeding. The feeding guide above shows the count for each feed size.
Where It Is Made
Kendamil's organic powders are made at Kendal Nutricare's own factory in Kendal, in the English Lake District. The ready-to-feed bottles are UHT-processed and aseptically filled, which the Kendal site does not do, and Kendamil describes the range as "lovingly made in Europe" for the company. Kendal Nutricare is the manufacturer named on the pack, and the best-before date is printed in day/month/year order.
Classic or Organic?
Both Stage 2 bottles are whole milk based and made without palm oil, fish oil or soy. The Classic bottle is 250ml, Red Tractor assured, carries more GOS plus FOS and has no nucleotides; the organic bottle is 200ml, certified organic, and keeps the tin's nucleotides and 3'-GL. Per 100ml the organic bottle costs about 40% more in the UK. If you are choosing on price and bottle size, go Classic; if you are choosing on certification and the fuller ingredient list, this is the one. After the first birthday, Kendamil Organic Ready to Feed Stage 3 is the ready-to-drink toddler milk in the same bottle.
Kendamil Organic Ready to Feed Stage 2 FAQ – Everything Parents Want to Know
Why does a follow-on milk have more iron?
A baby's iron stores from birth start to run down around six months, just as they begin solids. UK and EU rules set a higher minimum iron level for follow-on milks than for first infant milks, and Kendamil raises it from 0.7mg to 0.8mg per 100ml between the two organic bottles.
How long does an opened bottle last?
24 hours in the fridge with the cap on. Anything poured into a cup or feeding bottle should be used within two hours, or within one hour of your baby starting to drink, then discarded.
Can I serve it from a cup?
Yes. From six months a free-flow or open cup is a good way to give some milk feeds. Pour what you need and refrigerate the rest.
Is Kendamil Organic Ready to Feed Stage 2 vegetarian?
Yes. There is no fish oil; the omega-3 DHA comes from the microalgae Schizochytrium sp. It contains organic cow's milk, so it is not vegan.
Do I have to switch to Stage 2 at six months?
No. A first infant milk can be used through the first year. Stage 2 is there for parents who want the higher iron level of a follow-on milk once solids are under way.
