Navigating the world of infant formula can be overwhelming with the multitude of options available. In this comprehensive comparison guide, we explore two prominent choices: Kendamil and Enfamil. Each brand offers unique advantages, from Kendamil's natural, organic approach to Enfamil's range of formulations. Whether you're drawn to Kendamil's emphasis on organic ingredients or Enfamil's specialized options, this guide will help you understand the key differences and similarities between the two, ensuring you make an informed decision that best supports your baby's needs.
Brand Overview
Kendamil, a prestigious British company with over 60 years of history, operates as a family-run business based in the English Lake District. Their factory in Kendal sources over a million liters of milk monthly from grass-fed cows on local farms that prioritize animal welfare. During the 2022 US formula shortage, Kendamil supplied millions of cans to American parents, becoming the fastest-growing formula brand in the country. Kendamil is FDA-registered and available at 2,400+ Target locations as well as online through Organic Life Start.
Enfamil, produced by Mead Johnson Nutrition (a subsidiary of Reckitt), has been at the forefront of infant nutrition since 1905. The brand invests heavily in research to develop scientifically-backed formulas, and its NeuroPro line features MFGM components and DHA for brain development. Enfamil offers the widest specialty range of any US formula brand, with products designed for everything from lactose sensitivity to premature infant nutrition.

Enfamil Formulas
Enfamil NeuroPro ($36.99/20.7oz)
Enfamil NeuroPro aims to support brain development with MFGM components and DHA (from fish oil). Features the HuMO6 immune blend and 2'-FL HMO. Non-GMO ingredients. The closest Enfamil equivalent to Kendamil's standard formula, though it uses nonfat milk + vegetable oils (including palm olein and soy oil) rather than whole milk.
Enfamil Gentlease (~$37/20oz)
Enfamil Gentlease features partially hydrolyzed proteins for babies with gas, fussiness, and crying. Uses corn syrup solids instead of lactose as the primary carbohydrate. Designed to reduce digestive discomfort within 24 hours. This is where Enfamil has no Kendamil equivalent - Kendamil Comfort ($48.44) is the closest, but it's often on waitlist.
Enfamil Sensitive (~$37/19.5oz)
Enfamil Sensitive is specifically designed for lactose sensitivity, using corn syrup solids as the carbohydrate source. Includes DHA for brain development and is gluten-free. Not suitable for galactosemia. Kendamil has no lactose-free formula, so for diagnosed lactose intolerance, Enfamil Sensitive or HiPP Comfort (reduced lactose) are the options.

What Sets Kendamil Apart
- Whole Milk & MFGM: Kendamil uses whole milk rather than skim milk + vegetable oils. This naturally preserves MFGM (Milk Fat Globule Membrane), linked to cognitive development in clinical studies. Enfamil NeuroPro adds MFGM as a separate ingredient, but Kendamil's is naturally intact from whole milk.
- Organic Certification: Kendamil Organic holds triple certification (EU + USDA + UK Soil Association). Enfamil has no organic option.
- Goat Milk Option: Kendamil Goat with A2 protein for cow's milk sensitivity. Enfamil's alternative is soy-based (ProSobee), which many parents prefer to avoid.
- Vegetarian DHA: Kendamil's DHA comes from algae (no fishy smell). Enfamil uses fish oil, which some parents notice in the formula's scent.
- Ready-to-Feed: NEW in 2026 - Kendamil RTF is the first European ready-to-feed formula available in the US. 6 bottles across Classic and Organic, all stages.
- Staged Formulas: Stage 1 (0-6mo), Stage 2 (6-12mo), Stage 3 (12+mo) - nutrition adapts as your baby grows. Enfamil NeuroPro is single-stage.

Kendamil vs Enfamil - FAQ
Is Kendamil better than Enfamil?+
For ingredient quality, yes. Kendamil uses whole milk (with natural MFGM), algae-sourced DHA, no soy, no corn syrup, and no palm oil. Enfamil NeuroPro also has MFGM but uses nonfat milk + vegetable oils (including palm olein and soy oil). However, Enfamil offers a wider specialty range (Gentlease for gas, Sensitive for lactose intolerance, AR for reflux, NeoSure for preemies) that Kendamil doesn't match. For a healthy baby, Kendamil has cleaner ingredients. For a baby with diagnosed medical conditions, Enfamil's specialty lineup may be necessary.
Is Kendamil more expensive than Enfamil?+
Kendamil Classic costs $43.50/can (800g), roughly $183/month full feeding. Kendamil Organic costs $50.15/can, roughly $211/month. Enfamil NeuroPro costs about $36.99/tub (587g), roughly $170/month. So Kendamil Classic is ~$13/month more, and Organic is ~$41/month more. Both Kendamil options include free express shipping from Organic Life Start. Enfamil is available at local stores with no shipping wait.
Can I switch from Enfamil to Kendamil?+
Yes - thousands of parents have made this switch successfully. Transition gradually over 5-7 days: 75% Enfamil + 25% Kendamil, then 50/50, then 25/75, then 100% Kendamil. You may notice softer, more golden-colored stools, which is normal and reflects the different fat source (whole milk fat vs vegetable oils). If your baby was on Enfamil Gentlease or Sensitive (specialty formulas), consult your pediatrician before switching, as those address specific medical conditions that standard Kendamil doesn't cover. Kendamil Comfort is the closest European equivalent to Gentlease.
Does Kendamil have a Ready-to-Feed formula like Enfamil?+
Yes - as of 2026, Kendamil now offers Ready-to-Feed bottles in both Classic and Organic lines, covering Stages 1, 2, and 3. This makes Kendamil the first European formula brand with RTF available in the US. The bottles are 200-250ml (vs Enfamil's 32oz bottles), priced at $6.17/bottle. Kendamil RTF uses the same whole milk base with no palm oil and algae DHA. Enfamil NeuroPro RTF is cheaper per ounce but contains palm olein and soy oil.
Why does Kendamil not smell fishy like Enfamil?+
Kendamil sources its DHA from marine algae (the organisms fish eat to obtain DHA), while Enfamil uses fish oil. Fish oil oxidizes when exposed to air, producing aldehydes with a fishy smell. Algae oil doesn't have this issue. This also makes Kendamil 100% vegetarian, Halal, and Kosher certified. Many parents who switch from Enfamil to Kendamil report that the lack of fishy smell is one of the first differences they notice.
Does Enfamil contain palm oil? Does Kendamil?+
Enfamil NeuroPro contains palm olein oil as part of its vegetable oil blend. Kendamil is 100% palm oil-free across every product (Classic, Organic, Goat, Comfort, and RTF). Unstructured palm oil in formula can bind with calcium to form "calcium soaps," leading to harder stools and reduced calcium absorption. This is one of the most common reasons parents switch from Enfamil to Kendamil. See our palm oil-free formula guide for more options.
My baby has gas on Enfamil - will Kendamil help?+
Many parents report reduced gas, softer stools, and less constipation after switching from Enfamil to Kendamil, likely due to the absence of palm oil and soy. Kendamil's whole milk base with natural fats may also be easier to digest for some babies. However, if your baby's gas is severe, consider: Kendamil Comfort ($48.44, hydrolyzed protein for colic/gas), HiPP Comfort ($34.00, hydrolyzed + reduced lactose), or Kendamil Goat ($60.60, A2 protein, softer curds). See our best formula for gassy babies guide.
Is Kendamil or Enfamil closer to breast milk?+
Both brands aim to mimic breast milk, but in different ways. Kendamil's approach: whole milk (preserving natural milk fat structure similar to breast milk), MFGM naturally intact (breast milk contains MFGM), 3'-GL HMO from cow's milk lactose, and lactose-only carbs (breast milk is 100% lactose). Enfamil's approach: added MFGM components as an ingredient, 2'-FL HMO (synthetic, structurally identical to breast milk HMO), and DHA at brain-building levels. Both are valid approaches. Kendamil replicates breast milk's fat structure more closely; Enfamil adds more synthetic bioactive components. For the closest breast milk match, also consider HiPP Dutch Stage 1 (probiotics + prebiotics + 60:40 whey:casein). See our formula closest to breast milk guide.

I’ve heard so many parents recommend both of these that I never knew which one to try first. My sister swears by Kendamil, while one of my closest friends has used Enfamil with both of her kids. It really does seem like what works great for one baby might not be the same for another.

We tried Enfamil with Kristoffe before, and I remember wondering if he would ever get really excited about his bottles. Since changing to Kendamil Organic, our feeding time has been much more enjoyable for both of us. And now he grabs his bottle and cuddles up in my arms with such a happy little expression. He steady-paces his drinking, sometimes pausing for a quick burp before eagerly heading back for another few sips. I love those little moments when he looks up at me when feeding, as if to check I’m still there. He finishes his bottle with a content, satisfied look on his face, and that has become one of my favorite parts of our routine. Every baby is different and has their own preferences, so I’m happy we listened to what Kristoffe seemed to like and didn’t just assume all formulas would feel the same to him. Kendamil Organic has become such a beautiful part of our daily routine, to see him so happy during his feeds.

When our pediatrician recommended considering Kendamil, we started looking more closely at it as an alternative to the Enfamil we had been using. As parents, switching formula made us nervous because we didn’t know how our baby would respond to the change. We spent time comparing the ingredients and nutritional information because we wanted to understand why our pediatrician thought it could be a good option for our baby. We eventually decided to make the switch and gave our baby time to adjust to the new formula. The first few days made us a little anxious because we were watching closely for any changes in feeding and digestion. Thankfully, the transition became easier as our baby got used to Kendamil. We also appreciated that we had discussed the change with our pediatrician rather than making the decision completely on our own. This experience taught us that changing formula can feel overwhelming, but having professional guidance made us feel much more confident. It also encouraged us to become more familiar with reading formula labels and understanding the differences between products. Looking back, moving from Enfamil to Kendamil was an important part of our feeding journey and showed us how much a thoughtful, pediatrician-guided change can mean to parents.
